All Blacks Replica Home Jersey 2023/2024
Designed for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France and continuing through the early 2024 international transition window, this iteration of the All Blacks home jersey represents one of the most artistic and culturally blended releases in the modern adidas era.
To bridge New Zealand’s rugby heritage with the host nation of the 10th Rugby World Cup, adidas commissioned Parisian street-style designer and artist Fey The Wolf to re-imagine the sacred black strip. The jersey departs from uniform solid black by embedding an all-over tonal print of hand-drawn ferns rendered in a continuous, flowing line-symbolising guardianship, brotherhood, and the unbroken legacy passed from one generation of All Blacks to the next.
-
Tournament / Campaigns: 2023 Rugby Championship, and early 2024 test window
-
Fabric Composition: 100% Recycled Polyester piqué (minimum 70% recycled content overall)
-
Print Architecture: Continuous all-over sublimation print of stylized French and New Zealand fern fronds (cut from continuous printed fabric rolls, making pattern placement subtly unique on each replica shirt)
Design Story & Cultural Lineage
-
The Franco-Kiwi Fern Concept:
Fey The Wolf collaborated directly with senior All Blacks players to develop an artistic interpretation of the fern. The artwork merges the sharper, iconic serrations of the Aotearoa silver fern with the softer, rounded fronds characteristic of native French ferns, establishing a visual handshake between New Zealand and the 2023 tournament hosts.
-
The Continuous Line of Guardianship:
The outline of each fern is drawn in a single unbroken stroke. This reflects the core team philosophy that no individual ever "owns" the All Blacks jersey; players are merely temporary custodians tasked with adding to its legacy before handing it down intact to the next generation.
-
Squad Diversity & "USO" Emblem:
On the match-grade iteration, the arrangement featured 14 inward-facing ferns surrounding the team crest (acting as the 15th fern) to form the Samoan concept of “USO” (brother). This design choice formally honoured the multicultural brotherhood and shared bond binding the squad together.
On-Field Context:
-
The 2023 Rugby Championship Sweep:
Debuting in the 2023 southern hemisphere window, the kit saw immediate success as the All Blacks swept the Rugby Championship, including a dominant 35-20 win over the Springboks at Mt Smart Stadium.
-
The 2024 Transition:
The design remained in service through the early months of 2024 before the launch of the 25th Anniversary retro-collared collection, cementing its status as the kit that carried the team through the conclusion of the Ian Foster era and the final tests of legends like Sam Whitelock, Brodie Retallick, Aaron Smith, and Dane Coles.
